You know, if any organization could properly be called “evil”, it must be the Catholic Church. It’s rare that a month goes by without some new atrocity coming to light, usually something related to covering up, enabling, or blaming the victims of child rape, but occasionally it’s something different, like telling Africans that condoms spread AIDS, or excommunicating a doctor for saving a little girl’s life, or ordering hospitals to let women die rather than terminate a lethal pregnancy.

This is bad even by those standards.

In the 1950’s, the Dutch Roman Catholic Church castrated at least ten boys, officially to “get rid of homosexuality.” Apparently it was really retribution for reporting sexual abuse by priests.

If you need to go throw up now, I’ll understand.

I really don’t know what else to say about this. I mean, there it is. The boys reported abuse. Although at least two priests were arrested, the boys weren’t protected, they were sent to a psychiatric hospital run by the very institution that abused them. There’s one name known, Henk Heithuis, and nine other incidents confirmed, though the names have been lost. It’s expected that investigation will turn up more incidents.

A couple days ago Pharyngula had a video of some nut explaining that masturbation would cause the collapse of Catholic morality. Not the lies or the rape or the victim-blaming or the horrifying physical, emotional, and sexual abuses perpetrated by both individuals and institutions of the organizations, not the cover-ups, not hurting victims to protect the abuser, not sending serial rapists to new hunting grounds rather than the police, not treating consensual sex between adults as a worse crime than raping children whose safety and well-being was entrusted in your care, no, these are minor, ignorable problems. Masturbation though, that’s the end of it.

Because hurting people doesn’t matter, there are always more people. Controlling people, that’s what’s important to these assholes. Control the basic instincts, sex, hunger, shelter, and you can control the person.

Frankly I don’t buy this “masturbation will destroy Catholic morality” claim, you can’t destroy what doesn’t exist. But I do like the idea of “destroying Catholicism” as a euphemism for masturbation.

Seriously, if you still call yourself a Catholic, why the hell are you willing to associate with this monstrous institution?
