The Deal

The primary idea behind this blog is to force myself to write. I’ve struggled with the learning disability dysgraphia  my whole life, and only in the last few years have I really felt that I’m starting to get past it.  Since it was keeping a journal that got me past the handwriting part, I figure blogging is the logical activity to work on my coherence. I’ll try to improve my creativity while I’m at it.

So I’m going to set a goal of 1000 words per week. Nothing too stressful. I can write a post every day or do it all in one long essay. Maybe I’ll step it up if it seems too easy, but I’m going to give it a few weeks to see what it’s like.

To keep myself from getting bored, I’m putting no restrictions at all on content. So one post may be a detailed commentary on current events, and the next a thousand words of Sherlock Holmes slashfic. Whatever. Although the more creative it is, the better, the important thing is that I write, as clearly and coherently as possible.

In keeping with the purpose here, any and all criticism is welcome. Even nitpicking. But if you’re going to call me a semi-literate pigfucker, you’d better also be telling me where and how I’m screwing up.

To encourage comments, I’m going to attempt to write anything anyone suggests in the comments. For fiction, that means anything. It may suck, but I’ll damn well try. For non-fiction, this has a few restrictions. I’m not going to do interviews, (well actually I might, but they don’t quite fit in the spirit of this blog) I’m not going to contribute original research to the body of human knowledge, and I’m not taking any project that requires more research than I can get with Google or a few hours at the library.

To keep myself honest, here are the rules again:

  1. I must write one thousand (1000) words each calender week. The new week starts at midnight between Saturday & Sunday.
  2. Extra words do not carry over. I can’t write 3,000 words and then take two weeks off. Exceptions may be made to this rule for special circumstances.
  3. If the word count falls short, it must be made up for. If I only manage 800 words one week, the next week I owe 1200.
  4. Any content requested in the comments must be attempted, so long as I can pull it completely out of my imagination or with minimal research.

So, now the question is, does this post count for this week? It’s 445 words, nearly half a week’s requirement. On the other hand, it’s neither creative, nor especially coherent.

  1. Don’t complicate things. Anything you yourself write counts. Anything quoted does not. Simple enough.

Here’s your first request: I want a Spider Jerusalem style rant. Any subject. Or, if that’s too much cursing for this early in this journal, I want puns. 20 of them.

Gotta start this journal out corrupted SOMEHOW.

  2. I’m going to sit back and watch you two torture each other. This should be amusing reading.

And by the way, it is never too early after the birth of a blog for copious amounts of cursing.

  3. Love to see how creative my friends can be. Looking forward to seeing your work.

BTW, what is it with men and puns??? I swear it is has something to do with that Y chromosome.

    • It’s part of the same psychological bits that make us reluctant to talk about our feelings. We treat language as something strange and mysterious, so naturally finding clever ways to play with it appeals to us.
I totally just made that up. I’ve never seen puns as a “guy thing”, before.
      Thanks for joining me!
