search term highlights

Been so busy I barely noticed that I missed my usual day. I thought about it once on the 15th and probably twice yesterday, but it’s only now that I have both time and presence of mind to do it. So here are the highlights for the last 30 days! As usual, search terms are bold while my comments are italic.

2012 in review

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2012 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

600 people reached the top of Mt. Everest in 2012. This blog got about 2,900 views in 2012. If every person who reached the top of Mt. Everest viewed this blog, it would have taken 5 years to get that many views.

Searching for better searching

Running a little late on my search terms post this month, but I do have the proper list. I’ve been getting a feedback loop on certain topics. Every time they’re included in a search term list that I post, they become more likely to turn up in someone’s search. Been trying to work out a way to exclude the search term posts from indexing, which is taking longer than I expected. In the meantime I’m just going to skip terms that I’ve seen over and over.

As usual, searches are in bold while my commentary is italicRead the rest of this entry

Bad day

Some days you just don’t have it in you. I did get a proper post started, but it’s not going up tonight. Maybe in the morning it’ll seem less daunting. Good night everyone.

Took the day off

Yeah, that’s my excuse. Totally deliberate. Wasn’t at all that I started a post and got so bogged down in details I completely lost the thread until I started feeling asleep at the keyboard, not in the least!

Yeah, unless it really looks like total crap in the morning, I should have a pretty big post sometime tomorrow. For now, well, I’m still 12 posts behind on the Post a Day challenge, so at least I’m not falling back any farther.

Goodnight everyone.

Falling off the wagon.

It’s been a while. Funny thing about people, they (or at least I) seem to get into a sort of inertia. Write every day, and it’s not too hard to keep writing every day. Missing a day is a stumble, but it doesn’t really change all that much. Once you’ve missed several days, or a week, you’ve lost your momentum and it’s much, much harder to get started again.

This is my first post in sixteen days. It’s been surprisingly difficult to get started on it. But I’m moving again now, that’s something.

The funny thing is, I haven’t been without stuff to write about the last two weeks. I’ve had plenty of ideas, they even seemed to work against me, colliding in my head so that I couldn’t sort them out enough to start writing one.

Anyway, for the next few days I’m going to try for short posts, more than one per day. I’m also going to aim for lighter subjects, but I don’t really know how well that will work. We’ll see.

Although I won’t really feel confident about it until I’ve got a solid week of posts, I’m going to tentatively say that I’m back. We’ll see how long it takes me to get into the swing of things again, and how long until I write 1,200 words of rage finding a new and interesting way to insult congress.

This writing thing really is a pain sometimes.

All the time I would have spent blogging got sucked up making a video that almost none of you will see. Sorry about that.

Lazy Sunday.

I never managed to get any writing done at all today. Oh well, slacking off is what we have weekends for! Should be back tomorrow with something. Have a good night everyone.

Abducted

I was kidnapped on Monday, and my day trip turned out a bit longer than expected. So now I’m playing catch-up, which probably means short posts, in theory, but I saw a video Monday that was so crazy I might have to do a detailed break down of it.

Anyway, should have something else up today, sorry for the delay!

Well, damn

In all the crazy busy rush yesterday I totally forgot to blog. I actually have reminders set up, but they can’t help if I’m away from the desk all day.

I will try to catch up with proper posts, but if not this will have to count for one.

I think it’s safe to say that the party of Lincoln is gone now.

This video of Rick Santorum has been circulating recently, and it led me to this, which then led me to this.

Ladies and gentlemen, this person is one of the frontrunners for the Republican presidential nomination.

I’ve heard it said that both parties have strings being pulled by the same big money interests, and this is the sort of thing that makes that look really plausible. Put on a show to keep the voters distracted, have one side try to take away various civil rights so that people have to fight them, and have the other side “compromise” on various money deals. It just keeps looking less and less like a crazy conspiracy theory.

It’s also depressing as all hell, so here’s a wild west mardi gras zombie attacking me.

Well, I suck.

So apparently if I take one day off, that means I’m useless the next day. Not feeling great right now. Try to do better tomorrow.

Goodnight.

Tiring day

It’s been a very long day for me. Spent much of it traveling from one city I’ve never been in to another city I’ve never been in, by way of a city I’ve only briefly visited, and the last time nearly eight years ago. Only got mildly lost twice, not bad for being out of practice at the travel thing. I’d like to thank the bus driver who let me on with my too large suitcase with only a scolding.

I’ve caught myself writing the wrong word a couple times in here already, it wouldn’t surprise me if I missed a few. Sorry about that.

Some of you got a sneak peak at my post a day safety net.  I remember when I made it there was some weirdness, I didn’t realize that I’d made it a page instead of a post. That’s fixed. If all goes well, it will never be public again.

Not much more to say tonight, I’m exhausted. Take care everybody.

Sorry, I suck today.

Busy day and network issues, so you don’t get anything interesting. Sorry about that, but I’m sure glad I wrote the rules to accommodate days like this.

Something more substantial when I get a chance to catch up to the world, until then you get crap like this. Yeah, I’m not happy about it either.

Winter Comforts

In my impromptu facebook poll of “What should I write about?” the winner seemed to be creature comforts during winter. Which sounds kind of dull to me, but hey I asked!

My number one comfortable thing in winter is hot drinks. Tea, mostly, but also cider & chocolate and sake. I’ve always wanted to drink hot sake while it was snowing, and hold my steaming cup out to catch a snowflake like they do in every Japanese story I’ve ever encountered where characters were drinking in the snow. 2011 in review

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2011 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

A San Francisco cable car holds 60 people. This blog was viewed about 1,400 times in 2011. If it were a cable car, it would take about 23 trips to carry that many people.

This is probably the laziest post I’ve ever made. Except for this paragraph, I didn’t have to write anything! But it is interesting, and I wanted to get it posted well before I do my search term roundup on the 15th, so here it is. I’ll be back with another post tomorrow, or maybe late tonight. See you then!

Daily posting.

At the beginning of October I joined the Post A Day challenge. At the time I was wondering how long I could keep going. Apparently, the answer was “About two months”.

It’s a strange thing. Often I feel like my life, my hobbies, and even my personality is somehow subject to the laws of inertia. I find it very difficult to start doing things, but once I’ve started I don’t want to stop. Annoying, really, so many things would be much easier if I could just pick them up and work on them for, say, 45 minutes and then move on to something else. Such is life, I suppose; I doubt I’m the only one who feels that way.

Yesterday the Daily Post had a survey, and it asked an interesting question. “What is your personal system for blogging?” I didn’t really feel like I qualified to take that anymore, but I’m going to discuss it a bit here anyways. If nothing else, at least I’m writing. Read the rest of this entry
