Hey, remember me?

So I’m checking my email, and I see this. If you’re too lazy to follow links today, it’s promoting two writing projects at once. First is National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) which, in short, is a challenge to write a 50,000 word novel during the month of November. This is no small feat, so the second promotion is WordPress’s own PostADay Challenge, which is exactly what it says on the tin, a challenge to post every day. (Presumably, to your WordPress blog.)

So I’m reading this, and I think to myself, “Leo, you have a lot of grand ideas in your life, and you had several when you started this blog. Now look at it, you’ve barely posted since Summer really kicked in and your brain melted into goo. Maybe it’s time to start thinking again. Maybe it’s time for a challenge.” Now, NaNoWriMo is clearly out of my league. I mean, I couldn’t manage 4,000 words a month, and I’m pretty sure I don’t write 50,000 in most years, but a post a day, I think I can manage that.

So I’m joining the PostADay Challenge for at least the month of October. Maybe the rest of the year, if I start enjoying it as the weather cools. Enjoying writing more as the weather cooled has happened the last few years, and directly contributed to the creation of this blog, so that’s not as unlikely as it might seem to someone who only knows me from my Summer blogging.

Maybe, probably not, but maybe, as Halloween approaches, I just might find posting every day more fun & easy than I thought. If that happens, if it looks like I might pull it off, I just might give NaNoWriMo a shot. I’m sure as hell not making any promises there, but I’m going to acknowledge the possibility.

Meanwhile, I’m heading over to dailypost.wordpress.com to sign up for October. If you have a blog, I encourage you to join me! Join me and together we shall rule this galax- er, well, that is to say… look, just give it a shot, ok?

  1. The Nanowrimo competition is definitely a massive challenge and commitment. I’ve really enjoyed the years I have been part of it but it nearly kills me every time.

    • It’s certainly a bit intimidating. The Post A Day thing feels like a high bar to me right now, so I think NaNoWriMo is going to have to do without me for another year at least.
